From Friday 24 to Sunday 26 November the Gurdwara will be celebrating the birth (Gurpurab) of the first Guru (enlightened being) and founder of the Sikh dharma (spiritual path of life). This will include the reading of the entire spiritual texts of the faith contained in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib which is Akhand Paath. For Sikhs the Siri Guru Granth Sahib is the divine word complied by the Sikh gurus and is the living guru. The Siri Guru Granth Sahib is poetry written in Raags that is sung and read in certain musical impositions. Raag has the power to create very specific emotions in one’s mind. A range of emotions such as joy, sadness, happiness, yearning, devotion, and more can be expressed through Raags.
On Sunday 26 November the completion of the Akhand Paath will take place followed by kirtan (devotional singing) and langar will be served. Langar is also a key of the Sikh dharma offering free vegetarian food to all. To reserve your place, please complete the booking form.
