Asalha Puja Day

Asalha Puja Day, a Theravada Buddhist festival, takes place during the full moon of the month od Asadha. Mainly celebrated in Indonesia, Thailland, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Laos. To some this day is known as Dhamma Day and is one of the most important festivals for Theravada Buddhists. A day that celebrates the Buddha’s first sermon when he set out the doctrine that came to him following his enlightenment. This was the first pivotal sermon that set in motion the wheel of dhamma – a teaching which encapsulated for Buddhists the four noble truths. It also sets out the essence of his subsequent teaching.
