World Humanist Day

21st June is World Humanist Day, celebrated around the summer solstice. This is a day for spreading awareness of Humanism as a philosophical life stance that means to affect change in the world. A day for Humanists to gather socially to promote the positive values of Humanism. This day came about during the 1980s as American Humanists started to celebrate it and in the early 1990s it was decided to have it on or near the summer solstice. Activities will be planned and it is celebrated differently in different countries – the Irish have poetry readings in the park, the Dutch show short films and Americans hold Introduction to Humanism classes.
