Today is Hanuman Jayanti, a Hindi religious festival celebrating the birth of the God Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is worshipped as a deity with abilities to attain victory against evil and providing protection. Devotees of Lord Hanuman celebrate him and seek his protection and blessings and today they will go to temples to worship him and present him with religious offerings. They will receive prasad from the temple priests. Today various religious hymns and prayers will be recited.
Hanuman was a devotee of Lord Rama and had unflinching devotion to Rama. Hanuman is they symbol of strength and energy and is able to assume any form at will and can wield the gada (celestial weapons), move mountains, dart through the air and seize clouds.
